    Perfect Your Golf Swing

Building the perfect golf swing is a labor of love, requiring patience, hard work and plenty of practice. Keep these five simple golf swing tips in mind the next time you hit the driving range at the Indian Wells Golf Resort to keep your handicap low.

    1. Proper Preparation… As the saying goes, proper preparation prevents poor performance. This is especially true when applied to your golf swing. Before you start your swing, you need to be in a solid fundamental stance. Stand with your feet at shoulder width, squared with the position of the ball. Distribute your weight evenly and relax your arms while you bend slightly at the waist. From here, you’re ready to strike the ball.

    2. Position the Ball, Hit it Big – One crucial component of adding distance to your drive is proper ball positioning. Ensure your drive flies long by teeing the ball up toward the front of your stance, near your front foot. Keep your front foot aligned squarely with the ball – not flared open or tilted closed – to help you push through your swing toward the target.

    3. Hips, Not Hands – Avoid a wrist- or hand-dominated swing from the tee, where the objective is to generate maximum power and distance. For many golfers, there’s a temptation to control and guide the club with the hands. Your hands and wrists should remain passive through the beginning of the downswing, which is triggered by a weight shift and turn toward the ball. Only after your arms have started their downward route toward the ball should you attempt to generate acceleration with your arms and hands.

    4. Plant Your Foot for Power – Put more power into your shot by keeping your body behind the ball before impact. Lifting your rear foot during the downswing will cause you to shift too much weight to the left side prematurely, resulting in a loss of power and distance. Anchor your right foot and avoid lifting it before contact. With your foot anchored, you will be able to conserve energy and fire more of your right side through the shot, maximizing your power.

    5. Finish Strong – Your swing doesn’t end once you strike the ball. Continue to swing through the ball to a full finish on each swing. When you end up in solid finishing position, your weight should be fully shifted to your front foot and your chest should be facing the target. When you are working on developing a strong follow-through, try to swing through the ball and hold your finishing pose for three seconds.

      The Best Do-It-Yourself Spa Treatments

Because you can’t spend every day at the luxurious spas in Indian Wells (though we know you wish you could!), we have some special tips to extend your pampering until your visit. From relaxing manicures and facials to soothing essential oils and smoothing body scrubs, a little rejuvenation can be found with these DIY home treatments.

Soothing Essential Oils: The addition of this lavender-vanilla bath oil to warm, luxurious bath is the perfect way to relax before bed. You’ll need two fresh vanilla bean pods, five ounces organic macadamia or kukui nut oil, and nine drops of lavender essential oil. To start, lightly wash the vanilla bean pods, allow to dry overnight, and then roll into a bean shape. Split open with a sharp knife and mash lightly with a spoon. Pour the macadamia or kukui nut oil into an airtight glass jar or bottle, placing the mashed vanilla beans inside. Infuse for four to six weeks, shaking gently every few days. When your infusion is finished, strain the beans out and put the oil into a lidded container. Prepare your bath, add one to two tablespoons of oil, and slip into delicious relaxation. Oil will keep up to six months when refrigerated.

Invigorating Sugar Scrub: Really wake up in the shower with this skin-softening scrub. Combine and blend ¼ cup of olive oil, one teaspoon pure vanilla extract, one cup turbinado sugar, 15 drops of peppermint essential oil, and ½ cup used coffee grounds. While showering, apply handfuls of the coffee scrub in circular motions, paying special attention to rough spots such as ankles, elbows, and knees. Cleanse skin as normal and feel silky-smooth. Scrub will keep one to two weeks in the refrigerator.

Combat Dark Spots: Feeling uneven and rough? Nature’s favorite (and most delicious!) lightener can help. Simply rub a cut lemon gently on sandpaper elbows and knees. Acids in the lemon soften tough spots on the skin and help to lighten any dark areas.

Moisturizing Deep Conditioner: Heat styling can ravage your hair, sucking moisture out and leaving it looking dull and limp. Give yourself a natural deep conditioning treatment by combining a jar of natural mayonnaise and half an avocado. Mix well, and then work into your hair, covering with a shower cap and warm, wet towel when finished. Sit and relax for 20 minutes, then rinse and wash hair as usual. Do not condition.

Everyday Warming Lotion: Everyday indulgences don’t have to be time-consuming. A simple way to feel pampered is to leave your daily body lotion on top of a radiator or heating vent before you get in the shower. When you emerge freshly-scrubbed from the tub, you’ll feel even more relaxed with the heated, soothing lotion. Just be aware—your lotion will get runnier with heat, so be sure not to use too much!
