The SKINS GAME 25-year history began in 1983 when the popular two-day event was played at the Desert Highlands in Scottsdale, Arizona for two years before moving to Bear Creek Golf Club in Murrieta, California in 1985. Starting In 1986, the SKINS GAME became a permanent fixture in the Coachella Valley. From 1986–1991, the event was played at TPC at PGA West in La Quinta, California. The game field subsequently site to Bighorn Golf Club in Palm Desert from 1992–1995. Rancho La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, Calif. hosted the SKINS GAME from 1996–1998, followed by Landmark Golf Club in Indio, California from 1999–2002. The past four years (2003-2006), the LG SKINS GAME was played at Trilogy Golf Club in La Quinta, California. Indian Wells, California will now be the home of this famed golf tournament for the next three years at the Indian Wells Golf Resort.
Over the past 25 years, the list of participants in the SKINS GAME reads like a Who’s Who of the greats in golf—Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino, Gary Player, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Curtis Strange, Nick Faldo, Raymond Floyd, Tom Kite, Paul Azinger, Vijay Singh, Colin Montgomerie, the late Payne Stewart, Greg Norman, Mark O’Meara, Tom Lehman, Fuzzy Zoeller, John Daly, Sergio Garcia, Corey Pavin, Adam Scott, Peter Jacobsen, Jesper Parnevik, David Duval, Fred Funk, Stephen Ames and the only female player, Annika Sorenstam.
Indian Wells Golf Resort is honored to have been chosen as the new home for the 2007 25th Anniversary LG SKINS GAME, as well as the field for years 2008 and 2009. With the exception of its first three years of existence, the LG SKINS GAME has visited the Coachella Valley every Thanksgiving since being created.
In 2006 LG became the title sponsor. The Indian Wells Golf Resort is proud to host the 2007 LG SKINS GAME, the world’s best professional golfers and the PGA Tour have affirmed that Indian Wells, a world-class vacation destination that is home to unparalleled resort-style living, is recognized as one of the premier golf resorts in the Coachella Valley. And, on the heels of the city’s $71 million dollar project to improve the Golf Resort facilities, Indian Wells is creating a new chapter in its stellar history.
